Ignorance is Bliss

The reasons

 

I cannot fathom

why I didn't tell you

from the start

it was much too hard

the reasons hardly matter

for you are important to me

yes, I know I act uncaring

but I need you more than I need life itself

I would forsake a lot

just to see you smile and happy

the reasons why I  hesitant

aren't happy or worth mentioning

yet you still want to know

please for both our sakes

stop insisting

no good will come of it

Sometimes people need to hear it, sometimes it is too difficult to say. Finding the balance that works for you is the best thing to do. Working it in your writing, nice job.
