Screaming From the Outposts

I heard them-

Screaming from the outposts

          "Why did I die?"

Crying from the outposts

          "Why did I die?"

 

Strident shrieks 

Tinged strangely with ignominy

          "Why did I die?"

Ignominy that I couldn't fathom nor understand

          "Why did I die?"

 

I didn't have an answer

So to the dead I remained silent

And reported to the next post
