A fate of doom awaits

A fate of doom awaits

A Poem by Nightmist
"

Sometimes the journey is meant to mean more than the destination.

"

A fate of doom awaits

We shall stand before her throne

fate knows she’ll ask us what we know

a choice we made so long ago

will haunt us now or lead us home

So here I wait, study her crown

a power earned through painful loving

I hope, I pray, she’ll know us now

But still I fear the end comes closer

Oh queen Sapphire, hear our plea

Lady of nature set us free

oh mighty ruler of our land

forgive our sins, for we repent

but as I wait, study her brow

I see a pain, her eyes are shining

There in her face stream tears of gold

She looks at us and says:

‘You’re home’

Confusion grows as I admire

all the hurt, her burning fire

my dear Sapphire

What on earth happened to us?

A queen, a poet and a soldier

the sun, the stars and moon combined

The three of us were once so hope-filled

now the past haunts us with spite

Perhaps for once

we’ve gained our freedom

perhaps for once

fate let us go

perhaps we won’t die as they told us

perhaps we’ll be happy once more

But we all know

perhaps won’t do it

And we all know

peace doesn’t last

We once were strong

as seven rulers

Now just the three of us are left

the tales foretold

of the doomed saviors

bringing peace in times of war

that peace is close,

closer than ever

But how I fear

What will come of us?

For now we stand here

lovers, fighters

and our sweet Sapphire

called us home

So even if we’ll die tomorrow

We can say, we loved

we lived.

I love the way Sapphire is both a queen and a symbol of mercy, and how the poem captures the bittersweet truth that peace is fragile but love and courage still shine through. Really beautiful and heartfelt.

I like it, although it kind of dragged a little in the middle.
