Light of the moon

Light of the moon

A Poem by Nitesh Mahabal

Laughing at the silly things I said,
Intrigued by the paths my silence led.
Hesitant words we never spoke,
Awkward nearness, hearts that broke.

My introverted ways held tight,
Your puzzled thoughts, unsure of light.
Two feet of space between our skin,
Yet worlds apart, we’d never begin.

I wanted you to know, I truly tried,
While sharing that same bus ride.
You left without a single sign,
Yet I kept telling myself,
we share the same blue sky.

Then came the mail, you’d soon depart.
Its quiet sting broke through my heart.
And one lone photo left behind,
A frozen echo, trapped in time.

Now shadows speak where words once grew,
And silence echoes all I knew.
Your absence haunts this quiet room,
A reminder of the light of the moon.

A gentle, lovely piece, the quiet ache of missed connection comes through so clearly. The moonlight ending lingers beautifully.
