Words Spoken are Deeds Undone

Words Spoken are Deeds Undone

Conscience anchored by guilt:
whining, crying, sulking in despair.
I am complicit.
Longing to lash out, but never do.
The very streets paved with human tragedy,
Beg for money, here is a dollar;
don't I feel better.
Children weep beneath dreary, cloudy roofs.
Food taunts through a crystal cage.
Hour upon hour burden the slave.
Renting oneself for a discarded crumb.
I am complicit.
Bodies are stacked under cover of a flag.
My flag?  No, how could it be?
I want no flag.
But the fire raining from the sky bears my name.
I am complicit, despondent.
Conscience anchored by guilt:
whining, crying, sulking in self-loathing.
Now, let us talk -- it is all we ever do.

Fantastic work !
I loved the lines -

Bodies are stacked under cover of a flag.
My flag? No, how could it be?
I want no flag.
But the fire raining from the sky bears my name.

To paraphrase Arundhati Roy - Flags are only used to shrink wrap brains and shroud the dead. Its good to see others questioning the acts carried out in our names. Its a rarity in this day and age, everyone is too busy pointing fingers at others horrendous actions and ignoring their own complicity
