Fallen Stones

Fallen Stones

A Poem by Noah Adair

Fallen Stones

Under the cold moon
The ruins of love
Glistened on her
Marbled lips
With a silence so vast
you could hear
The ardour of planets
Thaw out gelid stars

Light of another kind
Scratched tiny insects
Out of her soaked skin
To reveal unshed tears
In her warm flesh
So bare and vulnerable
In the cold air
Frozen in stillness
And silver

If some secrets
Are still intact
Where the moon touched them
Gleaming brilliantly white
Then listen for them now

They are the voiceless crickets
And sightless cicadas
Of summer amours

Too quickly we fell in love
Too impatiently
Too suddenly
Too passionately
In our eagerness to trust
The fallen stones of
An impossible earthquake

The fallen stones of
An impossible earthquake

A wonderful way to sum up a tragedy. Rich in imagery. The visuals in this poem played out like a movie. I saw her lifeless form under the cold moonlight.
