The Root and Flower

The Root and Flower

A Poem by Noah Adair

The Root and Flower

the lowest path of your heart is broken
the soaring walls of cool granite
sweep a gentle rose coloured shadow
across your breast like mountains
staked out in the sun
the snow-covered courtyard
of your heartache raises a lonely aspect
until soon a sunrise cuts a scarped path
into a serpentine, lilac sunset
the light moisture that falls and dries up
quicker than a woman’s tears
falls into the afterglow that suddenly
disappears into the distance
like a train hurling itself again
into the darkened, steel tunnel

the emotion you capture in your words is profound. all pain comes to an end sometime, no matter how long.

I love the journey into the inner geopgraphy of heartbreak! And the hurtling train just brought an inevitably powerful trek into sure darkness and deeper pain. A delicious poem on all counts. 🙏🕊️

There’s such haunting beauty in this piece, Noah. Your imagery feels sculpted from both earth and emotion..the granite, the snow, the light that vanishes like a train into darkness. It reads like a landscape of heartbreak, shifting between tenderness and distance. The contrasts you draw..soft light against hard stone..create a quiet ache that lingers long after reading.
