What The Heart Can Hold

What The Heart Can Hold

A Poem by Noah Adair

What the Heart Can Hold

The storm drain in your heart
Swallows the rivers of regret
You cannot hold

It takes the memories
That would clog your mind
Like dead leaves in a gutter
And flushes them out

Your bruised breast is beautiful
In the moonlight

Your dark charcoal hair
Falls over your shoulders
Like a rhythmic rain

A sudden cloudburst
Floods the chambers
Of my heart with
The sky’s steady weeping

Well said. Who knows what could become of us had all those dark memories overtaken us. Seeing this in someone we love has a profound feeling at times. Good or bad.
