Lavender Smoke

Lavender Smoke

A Poem by Noah Adair

Lavender Smoke

A scent of old lavender smoke
 drifts into the room -
as though a memory exhaled,
 soft and unannounced,
from a bedside candle.

  The wick trembles,
   a crown of light,

and my heart trembles too,
  a shaft of light
 loosening shadows
  from where grief had settled.

And in that trembling light
the corners of the room soften,
dust motes float
  like tiny lanterns,

and the weight of yesterday
loosens from the floorboards
  of my heart,
as if it is exhaling
  with me.

I reach toward the candle,
 my fingers tracing the warmth,

and for a heartbeat
grief trembles beside me -
  a whisper
 I can almost touch.

A heartfelt and emotive poem ...

I like the use of lavender here....connecting the reader to the story.

It's as if the lavender smoke has released the grief somewhat...

These are my favourite lines:

and the weight of yesterday
loosens from the floorboards
  of my heart,
as if it is exhaling
  with me.

Thanks for sharing....
