I woke up from the nightmare

I woke up from the nightmare

A Poem by Nobody

Woke up from the nightmare

Of saying, 'please forgive us'

To future sons and daughters

Like some failed baby sitters

Saying 'this planet was for you

For all the beauty it would give us'

But we played out in the sun too long

Played with human life like action figures

Scrolled our way too hell, till our phones weren’t even mirrors

They were portals to a burning world

Humanity imprisoned

And a pleasure-drunk, addicted world

Paralyzed in decisions

In this cacophony of chaos

Of the screaming little girls

So even when the news did break, we still could not hear them

I woke up from the nightmare

Where the hero couldn't do it

Couldn't find the bravery to fight their way through it

The children had no stories of overcoming evil

Cuz all they’ve ever known was the silence of the people

And i swear you had the nightmare too

'Our children, please forgive us'

For the bombs we've dropped for men

For the blood we've sold for killers

For the lies we've told to our hearts

Paid for palaces and dinners

Too afraid to raise our voices

So, we madaled them as 'winners'

Where the last good man on Earth was drowned

From demons from within us

Woke up from the nightmare

Where we didn't beat the villain

Reached the bad ending

Is anybody even f*****g listening?

I'm writing this, my presence here is missing

I'm lost inside the the words I've kindly been given

I woke up from the nightmare

Man, i saw it as a vision

Of holding my own children

And we'd failed in the mission

To save them any beauty

Or gift the wonder of this living

And you were there as well

All of us were in it

Now every time you fall asleep you'll feel it in your spirit

Cuz right before we woke up

In that daze between reality

We made ourselves a promise to the future of humanity

I place my hand in yours and we knew ourselves as family

A single human voice, simply asking 'will you stand with me?'

Whatever your religion, faith, or flag up on your mantelpiece

You were there as well

I promise

Standing hand in hand with me

Right before the end of time

And never ending in agony

I woke up in my bed, with the windows looking out at me

Woke from the nightmare

And all of us were here

Beauty hasn't died just yet

But we are pretty near
