Too tired a subject... not necessarily, as long as you can bring new aspects of said subject to light. Virtually every idea has already been explored ("Simpsons did it!"). What matters is whether or not you can make the reader see the topic from a new angle, so to speak. I think you accomplished that with this piece- it was clever, emotional; even funny, in a sardonic kind of way.
Two things I'd like to point out- when you chose the word "symbology", did you mean "symbol", or "symbolism"? Symbology is the study of symbols, not a symbol itself. Also, I'm not sure I understand the "common denominator" line. I understand the concept of a common denominator; I just don't understand its relationship to the rest of the piece.
All in all, though, I think you did well with this. Even I enjoyed it, and poetry that deals with love isn't usually my cup of tea.
I've been a student of film and fashion design, dabbled in creative writing, fine art, philosophy, and psychology, but am currently between universities. I will always be a patron of anything artistic.. more..
