NOSTALGIC OBLIGATIONS

NOSTALGIC OBLIGATIONS

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

This house is empty of your presence......

"

What am I looking for in this empty house where my days
Slide slightly out of balance and off center...where
Knowledge adjusts her skirts inappropriately
And I'm mid-stride a flight of stairs.

Everything....EVERY THING, is punished by your absence and
Morning comes unannounced to the house vacant of you.
As the mountains haul the sun on their backs
I shout, though there is no one to hear...''I am still here!''

Leafing through worn sepia photographs, I remember
Your piercing gaze in all the pictures no one ever took,
Just as our real life was about to begin and we tumbled
Out of the immense vault of some other time and place.

A trip down nostalgia lane is not so much a yearning
for the past, but for the idea of a time when all of the
Important things had not yet taken place...love, marriage,
children: all unrealized dreams, yet certain.....

It's like the moment we take our seat in the theater...that slow feeling
Of the lights...that hush as the unseen curtain begins to rise, like
So many memories flickering on an old reel-to-reel, and this private
Stillness in which remembering just might not be an obligation.

the lights just went low...the previews are over, and now for the main feature...
i felt like i was there...the memories that are precious...and this is reliving them through a reel...
almost wishing that we could start over and do it all again.
