Okra Greens

A Story by Owusuakk
"

My rediscovered love for okra

"

Never did like okra before. Mum would tell you that.

When young enough to have my feet not quite reach the floor when sat at dinner, I remember it was one of those ‘things’ that made the obligatory dinner rounds more often than it should have. I awaited those meals with bated breath…then I pretty much awaited all types of meals with any greens in them with that dreaded anticipation…

Now I cook Okra. Not much different from what I used to get served up (I think) but then probably it is as what would else describe my new-found love for Okra?

…In the pot it goes with dashes and mixes of tastes and smells " it’s an ongoing labor of love… all the while stirring and swilling and simmering and sizzling…offering aromas and wisps of imagery that teases the buds and senses alike.

My Okra gumbo is the journey I continue to make… and it ‘stews’ to its own special flavour…a flavour ever rich, ever potent, now much desired…
