Midnight Knives

just other night.

It's night, again, still
and the air is cool, quiet.

I twist and I turn,
a monster me in shadow cast behind.
I stab and I slice,
a midnight knife glistens in the dark.

My left shoulder cries for mercy,
but the right just laughs and cuts.

Phantoms surround my feet,
grey worlds living some half life,
but ripped in two by unforgiving hands.

My eyes are weary, hazy
and so I put down the sword
at last.

I wash my fingers clean of stains,
the warm water running a curious blue.

i like:

it gives me the imression that the speaker's soul chooses its own path even if its a dark one. nice job.
