An Optimist

An Optimist

A Letter of Sorts

Dear [illegible] K d p

You float in the wind, letting it guide you but never allowing it to push you from your course and ruin you. Even when the moon is up, it is always a sunny day in your soul. In there is a world where evil overlords are overthrown and fair kings always reign. Knights in shining armour fight for what is good, and the night is never allowed to come.

You are an inspiration in ways that not even the greatest poet in the world can describe, no metaphors or similes able to be compared. Your presence creates a cheerful atmosphere, one that could drive a person from suicide, just if it meant they could be with you and bask in your optimism.

Because that’s what you show to the outside world: optimism. You are always happy and carefree, loving the music that many hate and talking to those you have never before known. And I loved you for that; for being the candle in a world of darkness, for not being afraid to talk to me. You joked and laughed and sung and danced, and those who see you smile.

But now you’re leaving. The wind is guiding you away from us, and the inspiration is wandering to another mind. Your optimism is being drawn away, letting the darkness seep back in.

I never even got to tell you how I really felt about you. I don’t think it was love, not in the typical sense, but I wanted to be somebody you considered a friend. It wasn’t your fault, it was mine, because my prick of a personality and I were too nervous to really talk to you. I hate myself every time I think of what I’ve seen you do.

Ever as I write this, the tears in my eyes are dried by the fan. The wind outside blows tree leaves, clouds slug along overhead, life just keeps going on. You’ll never get to see this letter, because I think I’d die of embarrassment if you ever laid eyes upon this sappy, pathetic confession.

However, I wish you the best of luck, and I am sure others at your new [illegible] will have their chances to bask in your glory.

Much love,

L   l n T   in

Please excuse any misuse of language features that you find. I wrote this when a friend of mine moved towns, so I used my sadness to write what some will probably see as a piece of crap (although I do hope that you enjoyed this).
