Domestic Violence
By Shawn P Cassidy
Stay clear of the man whose rage begins to rise,
Whose shadow grows longer right before your eyes.
He stands in the doorway like a storm unchained,
A creature of fury barely restrained.
His fingers curl slowly, trembling with hate,
A ticking bomb locked in a human shape.
His breath turns jagged, his heartbeat loud,
A predator pacing beneath a thundercloud.
The room grows smaller with every step he takes,
The air grows colder as the foundation shakes.
His face turns crimson, his pupils ignite,
A man losing himself to the hunger of night.
Thoughts twist violently inside his skull,
Darkness swelling until it’s full.
He sees nothing human" just a target to break,
A fragile life trembling
in the path of his quake.
The tension snaps like a bone giving way,
A silent scream in the end of day.
You’ve known him six days" barely a breath"
But now you stand inches
from a promise of death.
The man you trusted, the one you thought you knew,
Has become the nightmare
that’s coming for you.
