Daydream Wonders
By Shawn P Cassidy
Candlelight flickers against black satin,
the room breathing in slow surrender.
Rose petals scatter across the hallway,
sweetness masking the scent of decay.
Chocolate melts on the tongue"
a memory pretending to be comfort.
Midnight holds me in its quiet arms.
Moonlight presses against my skin
like a lover who knows I’m already gone.
These are the daydream wonders,
the illusions I built to survive myself.
Visions that never came true.
Mistakes that cannot be undone.
Curses that feed on the marrow of my soul.
I feel the burn"
not of fire,
but of conscience.
My spirit incinerates in silence,
flaming without spectacle,
ready to collapse beneath its own heat.
Emotional suicide"
not a gun,
not a blade,
just the slow reload of regret.
No surprise.
No dismay.
Only the echo of my own trigger,
pointing back at me.
Candlelight again.
Black satin again.
Rose petals, chocolate, moonlight"
the same illusions replaying themselves.
And in the end,
the daydream turns to ash.
The wonder becomes a whisper.
The wish becomes a requiem.
These are the daydream wonders of death-time wishes"
the fantasies that die beautifully,
because they were never meant to live.
