Who I Am

Do you know what it feels like to fall in your arms?

Do you know what it feels like to love you?

Don't forget who it is that you are

When I listen, I'll listen to you with my heart and soul

When I love, I'll love fiercely, for all love is a form of art.

When I trust, I'll trust you with my life.

When I cry, I'll break to pieces in strife.

When I'm filled with joy, I'll fly away.

And when we run through the trees

 our galloping feet will kick start the sparks

At night I'll howl to the moon

Take shelter in your heart

When I find your hurt and your sorrow

 I'll caress them till you are free from your doom

I am a girl in the stars

A woman from the sun

I'm hard to find and hard to keep.

I'm wild and I'm free.

I am learning to be me.

I'm never tame nor predictable.

If I dream, I'll sprint after it.

If I'm doubted, my drive grows higher.

Our bliss will come

and our love will be lit up.  

 

I'll fight for our happiness

For our bravery

For our story

I am a raging fire

and I'll never go down in smoke 

I have held on to all hope

I am a beacon of light in the dark of night

I'll build an empire

I am who I am

and you'll find out.

I'm old. The older I get. The less I know about women. I just hope with the women near me. I stay in the light of love and kindness. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Kathryn, At times this seems firm and confrontational ("If I'm doubted, my drive goes higher...") and at others almost reverential, but the wordplay, the Sexton-like conversational style is consistently strong throughout and stellar.
