A Story by Kathryn Smith

Last year, on July 21st, 2016 - I woke up before sun rise.

I crept out of the house quiet not to disturb anyone.

I wanted to do something that only I would know about.

No one else.

I hopped in my car and drove to the beach.

But I couldn't find the sunrise.

It was too cloudy.

So I drove around for  a long time watching the morning unfold around me.

It was gorgeous.

Soon, when I returned home the sky grew darker.

And there was a rain storm, that turned into a hail storm.

My mother and I watched from the garage.

It absolutely poured.

And it was magical.

So I danced in the storm.

After this, my mother took me out to eat.

The rain stuck to our clothes as we scampered through the flood into the warmth.

In a flash, the sun eventually returned and gave the world a glow.

I'll never forget that morning.

It was magic.

I like to think the rain symbolized washing away my current heartbreak and the age of 23.

I was happy to turn 24.

And I must say that it's been a wonderful year.
