The Storm

The Storm

A Story by Kathryn Smith

I logged into Facebook.

Bad idea.

Gag.

Another engagement.

I want to throw up.

And I want to punch a wall.

Why cant I be loved like everyone else?

A lump in my throat.

I want to lose it.

I can't take it anymore.

Rings on girls fingers.

Love that they get.

Love I've never had.

My eyes looked to the window.

Shocked.

I looked again.

The road!

Just the road was gold from the sun.

Lit up yellow.

It took my breath away.

I dashed upstairs to grab my music.

I ran outside.

But the glow was gone.

So I walked down the road.

The air was cold.

But then slowly and surely..

The road grew gold again.

And I saw my shadow appear.

I turned around.

The wind picked up.

It hissed and it howled.

Leaves scattered and darted through the air.

Dirt and sand hurled at me.

Its as if I was walking

In a sunny tornado.

The force of nature calmed me.

And it reminded me that there is indeed a higher power.

There are good things coming to me.

And my heart was hugged.

My hair whipped in the wind.

Happy tears stung my eyes.

I let the breeze through my fingers.

And in a rush I jogged back home.

And when I got to the door.

The door I had closed before...

Was a door I found open.

The air held it that way.

And so..

I walked in

and closed it behind me.
