Sun and Beer and Poetry

Sun and Beer and Poetry

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Sun, Beer and Poetry

I gave up

offering you salvation

from the wreck

of your disaster.

I begged you

to come into my life raft

but you hung desperately

to your flotsam

with the fear and fervour

of paralysis.

You could not be bothered!

So now I concentrate

on being alone and free

with sun and beer and poetry.

Oh ok that is good.
Poignant throwing a life line and being rejected , best way is through the lonliness. Lovely write.

So many words to tell, so little time to do, I really miss the swell, and wish she had been true!

see already a poem there !
I loved this! How true it is of all the times we all try to save a friend, then we realize they are a home in there misery. Sun, Beer and Poetry...what a perfect combination!

Hi Melody, Glad you enjoyed it and can relate to it. Many thanks.
My favorite place to be..the beach with beer and making poetry... ;) x

Good piece with a great ending. I like the imagery you use except I would maybe go a different way than life raft, only because it has been use so often, maybe something like I begged you to release your anchor and hoist my mainsail; but that's just me. Good work!

Ok Point taken but as a non sailor such metaphors are lost on me.
That's a familiar scenario. You just have to pick yourself up and jump back into the water... I did; four wives, seven kids, 23 grandchildren and almost two Greats and counting... It's a great life if you don't weaken! (Saturday Night and Sunday Morning - Alan Sillitoe).

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
