Survival

Survival

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Survival

I used to rely

on soft flesh

to keep my heart alive.

But lately

I have learned

a truth or two;

why must I

be defined

by the women I adore

when they cannot see

what I am worth?

I think you can love fully, without being defined by the one you love. In order to do that though, you have to have a good grip on who you are. The "truth or two" is usually what teaches. I am still learning though. :)

Thank you moon. Just hope you are not 'blue moon'!
I assume the character you create with your poem has discovered this harsh truth prior to having his lover define his existence? Reason being that you are willing to admit this, whereas if it were too late, you would be in denial. Or so I think. Not my preferred genre, but fine job nonetheless.

You must not be defined by others! Do not allow it! This is your life. You are the definer.
