Kumamoto Hunger

I never fathomed

how to use one of those

oyster knives.

Can’t even remember

what they are called;

which is sad

as it shows my ignorance,

and perhaps a lack

of sophistication.

But neither have I

managed to work out

how to prize the mild,

slightly sweet flesh

from between the shells

of relationships,

and that my friend

is even sadder.
