I Waited

I Waited

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

I Waited

I stood by the window

and silently watched

my in-box.

Anticipating your welcome return

my heart was full brave

beating in my chest

as it struck twelve

or more.

No lantern flickered candle

did I see.

No whispered breath

against my cheek,

no cool lingering finger

stroke upon my nape.

Only a cold chill

settling in from the East

as I realised

you were lost,

deep in the forest

of words we had created.

You always manage to make sadness sound so beautiful, which makes your poetry beautiful. This is a wonderful write John!

Thank you Mia. I guess we have to see sadness and hope to make it beautiful.

Something good's got to come from pain...why not beautiful poetry :)
The emotions in this poem are amazing. I definitely felt this poem.

It flowed really nicely too. It made it a fun poem to read line by line.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Aaron, glad you liked it.
You have captured the disappointment at the failure of a promised contact, the agonising wait, unfortunately the internet does not always allow us to accurately assess the meaning of messages sent, without the assistance of visual cues we can easily misinterpret intent. At times we can feel ignored when that is not the intention of person at the other end of the keyboard. The fact that you encapsulated such feeling in such a brief poem illustrates the skill of your writng .

You are of course right about the ease of misinterpreting messages over the internet. Thank you for .. read more
Yes, you definitely captured the emotion well... So excited at first in anticipation, then the sad realization. Well done.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
