Above Suspicion

Above Suspicion

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Above Suspicion
From Magna Graecia
you came Bona Dea.
Good goddess,
divinity of ancient Rome,
daughter of Faunus,
your nature, sweet Fauna
predicted the female fate.
From across Tiber Island
to the Field of Mars
your cult topped
Aventine Hill
to protect the
chastity and fertility
of all women of Rome.
From you flowed strong wine
and the sacrifice of blood,
forbidden fruits from which
all men were barred.
But Pulcher was tried
for his intrusion
and Julius Caesar
was thus divorced.

Gotta love those strong women! It sounds like a fascinating cult at a time when men ruled almost everything.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
