Reflections on Life Lost

Reflections on Life Lost

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Reflections on Life Lost

I have entered many dark places

where I have fallen

into the gaping void.

A space cold and unforgiving,

staring blankly at my face.

Mirrors with no eyes,

bodies with hollow hearts

and vacant souls.

There I have lain

at the bottom of the empty grave,

naked and afraid

calling out your name,

begging your forgiveness.

I am nailed to this cross

by your fearful rusting revenge

forever the walking dead.

A chilling journey into a living awareness of death, like a limbo land. I like mirrors with no eyes but am trying to get 'your fearful rusting revenge to completely fit in.

Hi Leigh. Many thanks. I had the images of rusted nails through hands, nailed to a cross.
the transgressions must be great when someone begs forgiveness and is denied.

Revenge is so dark...perhaps it is forgiving self spoken of here..but it doesn't happen and this speaker loses all feeling...and is zombie like..a walking dead.

Thanks Junert
the line: mirrors with no eyes - is curious, made me stop and ponder, that perhaps this is an explantion of the paranormal or of paranoia itself, I can imagine being surrounded by self-reflective mocking looks of horror! Very good writing

Macabre feeling to look into a mirror and it does not reflect you. Thank you Sheema
I had to read this one over, since you know where my head went immediately....another scathing write on that guilt which we both agree wholeheartedly on.

"fearful rusting revenge' so well said!

Thank you Frieda. Oh and just where did your head go?
Like this, assume it to be a look at religion with the use of cross at the end, so you smuggle in a literary sense a strong image in at the end that forces you to re read the first lines..

Love the unambiguous visual rich theme in this piece. Tranquility achieved with acceptance of truth. Love this brilliant piece Mr. John. Thanks for sharing.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
