Of This Life

Of This Life

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Of This Life

I am looking up at skies

that stare blankly back.

                                      I sink in an ocean

where nothing floats,

just drowns.

I hang among vacant stars

in frozen and empty space.

I cannot move through time

without pain.

I exist in this universe

with no compassion,

a cold and Godless place

of science, dictators

 and frosted doctors.

So tell me,

where am I?

Who am I?

Am I simply walking dead?

Yes John, you could not have put it better. We could almost be walking dead. Maybe even evil dead.

" I exist in this universe
with no compassion,
a cold and Godless place
of science, dictators
and frosted doctors." - A very interesting description of the contemporary world!

Very thought-provoking and beautifully worded! Thanks for sharing.

You describe and emotional crisis, a zombie state almost, one who is battered by bureaucracy, such a sad, fatal disposition, very good

And thank you dear Divya for your kind review.
You give a rather good question to ponder. Sometimes being alive feels hardly that. Nice pen my friend.

Weighty piece my friend, I felt heavier after reading it. You get down to the nitty gritty of it always John.

Aren't they all? My pleasure.
John,

A forlorn look at life and the questions we all face at some point in our lives. Life can overwhelm us and sometimes, there are just no clear answers.

The meaning of the poem is very clear.

I am looking up at skies
that stare blankly back.

Great verse. Carries so much weight. Looking for something and not finding it there.

Good write John!

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
