Stolen Years

Stolen Years

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Stolen Years

I put you on a pedestal,

so high I could not reach you.

You stood there so proud,

bowing to your adoring fans,

leaving me in the wings of abandonment.

Everything I believed in was yours

so my faith withered and dried

like parched earth bound plants.

As I gulped and gasped

for the purity of your sweet air

you cut off the supply

and slowly I asphyxiated.

You strangled hope from me,

until I was no longer a man

simply a facsimile, a mere zombie,

walking with no true pulse,

no purpose,

no blood in my arteries.

Then you drew your dagger of deceit

and slit my throat,

leaving me to bleed

these decades of regret.

Man do I feel this one too, we all have that one who made us love for the first time and taught us how this feels. This feels very Hemingway to me, how eloquently the venom flows, how raw and fresh the wound still feels in this...experiences like this , well they shape our relations with all others, as they always sit in the back of our minds.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
