The End of Earth

The End of Earth

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The End of Earth

And in this bleak winter

we are so exposed

to searing icy winds

and driving freezing rain,

and the failure of our own faith.

The cold stone walls of memory

lead the immortals

to their torrid deaths

and in their graves

already lie the rotted bones

of those who fell before,

bowed beneath dreams

of heavy fortitude

and loyal souls.

And so the thaw will come,

rushing

in torrents of melted snow

to wash away these neat green hills

and pungent forests of pine,

till this sweet Earth

is levelled

and we are all forgotten.

It's scary here in the U.S. with all the intense storms ... supposed to be more on the way and Oklahoma will probably need another relief concert before they are through.

Nature canbe very commanding Mark. Many thanks.
Water is a fundamental and powerful force. The earth has the capacity to withstand a great deal of pressures. What we fail to comprehend is that humanity may not be part of the end equation. Nicely penned.

Exactly! Many thanks QSS
Water in all of its forms is an extractor of dirt and filth. Wash yourself in it and be cleansed. Man is to be caregivers of this beautiful planet, but with that being said it is natural for man y progress and develop. Nice choice of words John!

You're welcome
Very deep and rife with truth.

"in their graves

already lie the rotted bones

of those who fell before."

I love the archeological undertones. This is a story told with real beauty. Love it.

This is powerful, John. Love the imagery and the flow of this piece. Sounds like the ending of the Arctic when the oceans will swell and rivers will rise and everything will be destroyed in their paths. I think we humans will get what we deserve for what we've done to Mother Earth. You penned this so well.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
