The End of Earth

The End of Earth

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The End of Earth

And in this bleak winter

we are so exposed

to searing icy winds

and driving freezing rain,

and the failure of our own faith.

The cold stone walls of memory

lead the immortals

to their torrid deaths

and in their graves

already lie the rotted bones

of those who fell before,

bowed beneath dreams

of heavy fortitude

and loyal souls.

And so the thaw will come,

rushing

in torrents of melted snow

to wash away these neat green hills

and pungent forests of pine,

till this sweet Earth

is levelled

and we are all forgotten.

Thanks Sye
sounds like a purging of humankind from the earth...this is gorgeous in its presentation and skillfully penned....i will drink a toast to man's eventual demise, such undeserving creatures of this wonderful planet we desecrate and still have the audacity to call home....well done.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
