Cold Comfort

Cold Comfort

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Cold comfort

I have carved my name

in acid, graffiti tears

upon your heart.

So that you will not forget

that I was once there.

Each time you breathe

you will feel my touch

within your chest

and clasp my fading memory

to your sweet and tender breast.

As pangs of thorny questions

rack your mind,

consider how indifference

killed the warmth

that you once had.

Remember well

that love is not to take,

and all true love

is simply but to give.

Very thoughtful. Forlorn and poignant. Sad with a final insightful thought. Reads to me like parting words to a love never to be revisited. Nice work John.

Love the last few lines. Very sad that so many think love is about what you give or do for them and not about two people sharing together. I've spent years with a taker. It never changes and they don't seem to see any wrong in their selfishness!

'Acid, graffiti tears' wow, wish I would have thought of that one John. Love this, indifference is a definite killer, so is your poetry, you slayed the kraken with this one, love it. One of my favorite of yours.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
