The Picnic That Never Happened

The Picnic That Never Happened

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The Picnic That Never Happened

I spread my cloth

upon the soft grass.

Laid out the feast

at your feet

for us to savour.

But you never came

and sat upon my tartan rug,

you walked away,

someone else’s favour.

Wow, amazing that you could connect a picnic to something emotional and deep.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Thank you IHAV, thanks for reading.
Laced with bitterness but still sweet in its own way. Lost love, however it comes about, leaves room for new love to bloom. Very well written.

Many thanks for indulging me Kirstin.
So simple, yet so much emotion and depth to your poem. Great work John.

Thank you Keith. So good to see you back!
I really like this, here John employs a situation to transport an emotional message, the kind of poetry I enjoy the most !

Thank you for such kindness Leslie.
Well that just simply sucks. Somehow being stood up against such a beautiful backdrop seems worse than being left waiting at some restaurant.

Ouch - not cool. When I think of picnics I envision the checkerboard blanket, wine, sweet nibbles to feed a love, and an extra blanket (for privacy)... well, and the love actually there!
This is just a terribly sad situation.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
