Bezila NathiA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenBezila Nathi
Today's rising sun saw you interred in this Earth. A mere herd boy returned saviour to his birthplace, across many named rivers of blood and sweat and sufferance. Released from an island of incarceration and reunited with the cord of your life, long ago rotted in the ground of your ancestors. They mourn with us as we watch Xhosa rites performed; bringing home the bones of an old man, and restoring your perfect spirit to invoke izibongo and unite you with your dead. Mandela, son of Qunu, father of liberation, you are our modern Christ.
