The Holiday

The Holiday

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The Holiday

The pool is surrounded by laughter,

children splash and frolic noisily

as parents suck in their flab

and try to escape the reality of days.

Work and economic disaster

are set aside as sun, sangria

and San Miguel are imbibed.

Cares are placed into back pockets

as over indulgence helps us forget.

As warm days pass,

heat exhaustion saps the strength

and reminds a few disillusioned of real life.

But still we make the pretence

sharing ourselves and our close space

with strangers, when at home

we pass our neighbours without recognition.

So false this illusion,

but so easy to believe

during the all-inclusive experience.

A picture-perfect image. It reminded me of the movie, "Picnic".

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
