Speaking to the Clouds

Speaking to the Clouds

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Speaking to the Clouds

One cannot build love on promises

that have no time and place,

that have no identity

and cannot speak their hearts.

Love has a child-like face,

open and fresh and honest

as we rush to share in each delight,

catch our breaths at seeing one another’s souls

through lingering, longing eyes.

But the dance of glances,

of flitting lids and half hidden smiles,

must become a bold and romantic waltz,

so that hands alight upon solid flesh

and sweet breaths can mingle close,

as retinas lock in pure, unadulterated adoration.

Else we remain within ethereal skies

talking to the misty clouds that weave across the moons

in that opaque stillness of nights breast,

and there is no choice to make.

Have to grab love and life by the horns, let fear drip away and make a brave leap...as always, gorgeous weaving! xo

True Poppy but when it bobs and weaves and avoids you it is more a bull fight. Many thank yous!
another lovely write.. this one speaks of wanting more.. more than just the timid, shy, innocent---it wants the bold, complete, everything that love has to offer.. it wants the comfort in the "knowing" that this is for real.. this is "the one"... this is what it appears to be and not some mirage in the clouds... well done..

What a wonderous philosphical side you have, my dear! Ahh, but there is still eloquence here, languishing like a summer breeze wafting through a curtain..."Love has a child-like face."

...such beautiful lines, John!

Thank you Kelly so much.
Another romantic piece, sad, and full of longing. The love that wants promises of certainty yet there is no certainty.

You nailed it 'M', thank you!
a very romantic piece...and yes, "love has a child like face"---best line...because children are just brutally honest...and they have no prejudice...they just live and love in their innocence.

Thank you very much Jacob.
I got transported to a romantic scene, John Constable comes to mind. Looking at the night sky thinking and this is the kind of atmosphere that would give birth to this lines. Really nice metaphor for love like a child's face. Funny thinkg for me is the description of remaining on the thereal clouds. I would want to be there anyday misty clouds that weave across the moon ? Yep I so want to be there now. Opaque stillness of night breath? Well John if that place has no choice Ok but it is so appeaing to me.

Thankyou

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
