Speaking to the CloudsA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenSpeaking to the Clouds One cannot build love on promises that have no time and place, that have no identity and cannot speak their hearts. Love has a child-like face, open and fresh and honest as we rush to share in each delight, catch our breaths at seeing one another’s souls through lingering, longing eyes. But the dance of glances, of flitting lids and half hidden smiles, must become a bold and romantic waltz, so that hands alight upon solid flesh and sweet breaths can mingle close, as retinas lock in pure, unadulterated adoration. Else we remain within ethereal skies talking to the misty clouds that weave across the moons in that opaque stillness of nights breast, and there is no choice to make.
