Words Were All We HadA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenWords Were All We Had Without deeds, words are but deflated balloons when the party has ended. The internet has a language of its own that often speaks without diction. A flat empty discourse of text and email lacking enunciation, articulation or true meaning. Love spoken from behind these thick, false walls has no concept. And you see lists? Ticking off my need for your voice, for looking into your eyes, yearning the touch of your skin on my skin, the romance of gentle kisses and longing for our mingled breaths. I waited for you to come down from the skies and leave the ethereal fortress. But you will not, and therefore virtual reality is where you exist. For me there is no beauty there, no colour and no shape. I have beseeched you so, and now bereft, I will seek love in more human form with the deepest remorse, and scalding, boiling sadness for what could have been.
