Thank you for the Tragedy

Thank you for the Tragedy

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Inspired by the quote from Kurt Cobain

"

Thank you for the Tragedy

I need it for my art said Kurt Cobain

it paints the lonely sad melodies in my heart.

I need it for my art said the poet

It feeds the agony in my mind and inks my sorry pen.

I need it for my art said the sculptor

it guides my chisel’s path over cold marbled stone.

I need it for my art said the novelist

It gives my plot a sorry hook to ponder.

I need it for my art said the journalist

it fills front pages and sells the daily news.

I need it for my art said the priest

it subjugates and helps my flock to keep the faith.

I need it for my art said the despot

it controls my people and keeps my enemies in fear.

yes, tragedy is definitely food for poetry...what we poets do with nothing but happiness...???

surely there would be pages and pages of emptiness.

True Jocob, many thanks
Fascinating lines. Whether it be tragedy, joy, sadness, love, hate, or any number of other alternative states of mind, emotion is the driving force of mankind; belief a poor second and mostly vestigial.

Beccy.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
