For Better or For Worse

For Better or For Worse

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We either give or we don't.....

"

For Better or for Worse.

I am numb from the pain

of many years of toiling

for the truth of love.

I see myself imperfect

but neither am I bereft

of empathy and the ability

to give of my heart.

But the permanence of being

has evaded me.

Left me naked and exposed

in this flesh.

I long for the warm blanket

of a solid and willing one;

of someone whole enough

to understand.

I ask not perfection,

nor offer it.

I seek the tenacity of tolerance,

of vows so made

as to see the hills and dales

of life itself.

To want me and my flaws

and to be wanted

in acceptance of such equal frailty.

You should venture into the writing of greeting card verses...you make the simplest things sound so poetically correct and beautiful.

Thank you I think Kelly. Never saw greeting cards as poetry of worth lol!
I love the honesty of this one John, none of us are perfect, neither are relationships...they take hard work and perseverance on those ugly days, well said. Now, we're even, you used the same graphic as me. ;) We apparently have good taste...

Is this our second matched graphic? You know we have a shared perception my Lady. You are most kind.
Fine pladoyer for marriage, and the biblical/religious title has a wonderful, balanced feeling of a phrase, that makes you feel good..

I rest my case dear Leslie. Many thank yous for such a lovely and considered review.
I think it interesting and apt that you described wanting another one that is "solid, willing, and whole enough to understand.".... That is exactly what most of us look for.... we just end up ultimately seeing what they want us to see in the beginning, seeing what we want to see, or lusting after and hoping for the best... ha, but if we quit trying, we will never find it.. love the honest, bare bones exposure in this piece John.. it is one that a lot of us can relate to... I like seeing this side of you.. refreshing.. good job

This is so bare, and simple -- yes, love me warts and all and I will do the same for you, forever. If only ...

Thanks 'M', yeah I am being idealistic I guess lol!
Beautifully written, John. This is what love is all about. When you accept someone for who they are, not for who you want them to be, it is love. It is what everyone longs for as they grow older. I am so fortunate to have that with my husband. I wish I could tell you the magic formula, but I don't think there is one. I hope you do find that person. You certainly are a romantic. Lydi***

Thank you Lydi. Few see it these days.
i relate to this so much...at this time in my life, i know perfection is some ideal we might dream of but never attain...not for ourselves or for others...

we accept and love despite the flaws...and we realize the humanness...and embrace it.

Thank you Thomas!
Better said than found at times...if it where easy to do --- all of us would be too content...as with the usage of love to gain the advantage...when its really lust for the most part...but there is the trial and error of it all...and when the balance comes to the table...are you really willing to give it all up for that one person...for the rest of your days...hard to tell --- again its all in what you (both) make of it...even before and after the altar...if one (both) gets that far...

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
