No Return From Death

No Return From Death

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

When love eludes you again and again......................................

"

No Return from Death

A dreary dirge

hangs in the fugue

of the dreich day

as my soul forgets

that it once was nourished.

My optimism starved

by those who offered

hope only to steal

those dreams with

soft ethereal hands;

leaving the cold

to penetrate through

these thin rags of belief,

that I, a beggar for love,

had scavenged from

heaven.

The frost invades my core

now, leaving me numb,

afraid and alone,

feeling the empty howl

of the north wind’s breath

upon my rotting corpse.

A wonderful, difficult journey, with a beautiful frosty metaphor throughout. I don't like it, but the grey suits you.:)

Would that be Simply Red?

Shades of Red, remember? You read it, way back in the day.
I feel this piece...I had the idealism and optimism of the sixties...it's long gone now...

there is only poetry that reminisces of that time...that north wind is getting so so cold.

Thanks Jacob perhaps we should start a self help group for 'jilted' men lol!
Sounds like someone is stuck in this funeral march mode....a bitter ode, killer ending, literally. Sad, albeit beautifully pen'd as always.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
