Solace in a Safe Place

Solace in a Safe Place

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

When you are scared.

"

Solace in a Safe Place

I told myself I wouldn’t

reach for the gin,

but I did.

I am not sad, far from it,

simply unhappy, yet

surprisingly serene at

one and the same time.

It is a strange state of

equilibrium, unsettling

yet reassuring.

I miss the closeness and

the comforts of conversation,

laughing and warm skin,

but I feel somewhat

safer without,

so I reach for the gin.

Ah yes, that moment you realize you are lonely, but kind of "better off without anyone" -- careful, that's usually when someone peeks around the corner at you ...

I once told a farmer the very same thing.:)
Cold comfort perhaps, but better solace than despair. Eventually though, we all have to face our demons.

Yes but when the demons are forever.....................................
Sir Beefeater can be quite the company at times such as the ones you describe here. He is non-judgmental and he is so comforting. No, he can not have a conversation with you, but sometimes the ice clinking in the glass is all you need. Good one, John. Lydi**

Thanks Lydi, I am sure many of us lone 'warriors' feel the same.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
