Sanity/Insanity

Sanity/Insanity

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We hold on as long as we may.

"

Sanity/Insanity

In spite of everything,

or perhaps because of it,

I am happy to be here.

I have grown resilient

to falling through the cracks;

to taking the knocks life

has dished out in my direction.

Still it leaves me sad, even morose

from time to time,

moment to moment;

and I can turn on a sixpence.

One minute feeling buoyant,

full of hope, and the next sliding

into the abyss at the merest

whiff of insincerity.

A place where I will tear

the throat from monsters,

and tilt at the windmills

of perceived deceptions.

It is a brutal dark place to

inhabit and I would sooner

walk upon the surface

of the earth,

breathing the sweet air of

life, for I am happy to be here.

For better or worse we live our span and the fine line between so called sanity and insanity is perhaps more subjective than actual, but it is true that the mind is an incredibly powerful instrument that can call up those dark days from nowhere.

I totally agree T. Thank you.
No matter what life throws in our path, we fight.....because we know on some level there is no better place. There are disappointments in life....some of which are merely perceived. Even if they are real, the monsters can not steal the sunshine...not if we refuse to allow them. Unfortunately, there are those in life who will not be satisfied no matter what we do. Once we have accepted that, it is time to walk away from them....for self preservation. So much in this one, John. I liked it. Lydi**

Thank you Lidi, I think our paths are close enough to understand
the next sliding
into the abyss at the merest
whiff of insincerity.
A place where I will tear
the throat from monsters,
and tilt at the windmills
of perceived deceptions

An excellent write … here we have an example of the sneaky side of ego … it would have us take offence when the offence is really only to the one who perpetuated the act. We live in a limited world of sneaking chaos; no one person can ever live up to any other persons demands of ego … not possible … and so when one has seemingly failed you … think yourself the mountain and they the breeze. You will remaining standing long after they have blown themselves out … that comes from the Tao. Although I have done some paraphrasing.

I had hoped for such a reaction, Many thanks Poppy.
To live in darken places, here a little something from another something I read I thought it was fitting: Oh, wearisome condition of humanity, Born under one law, to another bound; Vainly begot, and yet forbidden vanity, Created sick, commanded to be sound. I started to realize I do enjoy roaming around darken places. Better the enemy you know they say. Sure about the sadness, maybe lonelyness as well but every so often when you get a glmpse of light it makes you want to continue. The sanity and insanity dillema well that's just it...

Thankyou

Yes that has interesting tones to it. Thanks Rene
face the monsters long enough, we get immune to the damage they can do...and we face them head on...just glad we are still here to fight...
that goes for emotions as well as physical...maybe moreso...

what knocks us down makes us stronger as long as we are resilent enough to get back up.

and sooner or later there is an invisible line between sanity and insanity...and it is hard to tell which side of the line we are on.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
