Who Pays The Piper

Who Pays The Piper

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We live in a corrupt society.

"

Who Pays The Piper

Always the groom,

never the best man

at the funeral of hearts

where undertakers, with law degrees,

in dark suits,

with dark faces and hollow eyes,

watch with glee

as more names are etched upon

headstones of oak.

And as more forests are felled

they lay tarmac, lit by eco friendly

street lights,

and build sleazy hotels and clubs

of ill repute

where fish may gather to spawn

and begin the life cycle again

in order to satisfy

the feeding frenzy.

Yes, we are complicit by our acquiescence.

Oh, wow, I love this one, John. It is very good, with a lot of smart, cynical, wry humour. Very nice, even though it doesn't come from a very nice place.

Such true words John, but ultimately of course, we live in a society of our own making.

riveting piece, and as Pryde said...excellent metaphors to bring to light something we all can believe...someone will eventually pay the piper...the question is...how much will be owed.

as we live in a society of instant gratification, and quick fixes...and those come with a price...

Many thanks Jacob
Yes … I've been to such a funeral … even when both parties agree there are prices to be paid … hearts to be mended and new identities found. Great metaphor work with this one, John.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
