Cogito Ergo Sum

Cogito Ergo Sum

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Doubt!

"

Cogito Ergo Sum

I think and therefore I am.

Indeed I cannot doubt my

existence while I doubt.

And doubt has been my life

ergo I have lived.

It should be you I doubt today,

and it is, as all your promises

came to naught.

But it is my self-belief

that has been more scarred;

that has my chest hollow

from your brutal deception,

leaving me simply

doubting my own life

and my very existence.

"you better think, think what you're trying to do to me"

so sad when empty promises can cause us so much self-doubt...
we have to learn to rely on ourselves....because others aren't necessarily trustworthy...

i am also reminded of a Moody Blues album...Threshold of a Dream and the intro..
"i think, therefore i am----because you are my shining star...face piles of trials with smiles, it riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave"

really get so much insight out of your writes.

Jacob you are a true rock. Many thanks.
Failed relationships can indeed cause us to doubt ourselves. We look for internal answers and bounce back and forth between externalizing and internalizing. It is the nature of the beast, well expressed in this poem.

Thank you 'M' you get it!
But it is my self-belief
that has been more scarred;
that has my chest hollow
from your brutal deception,
leaving me simply
doubting my own life
and my very existence.

I have been in this very place … how can life be real and have meaning if the one you love so deeply feels nothing for you. All the movies and very tales tell us the very opposite. Finding a mate is meant to be our primary function on this planet … but we are more, much more, as this fabulous write points out.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
