The Whip HandA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenTodays lesson. The Whip Hand Ria would not respond to my kick on a drizzle filled day in the school, no matter how hard I dug my heals in. She decided stubborn was good as she doggedly followed Vinny and I tried in vain to keep her on track. The lesson, control and rising trot, but Ria’s refusal brought me to an abrupt halt several times; so embarrassing for a novice. Emma marched to the standing mare, pushed the crop through my reigns and gave her a stinging blow and off she went at a canter. From thereon in she was good as gold and I had no need to use the lash, just having it was enough.
