The Whip Hand

The Whip Hand

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Todays lesson.

"

The Whip Hand

Ria would not respond to my kick

on a drizzle filled day in the school,

no matter how hard I dug my heals in.

She decided stubborn was good

as she doggedly followed Vinny

and I tried in vain to keep her on track.

The lesson, control and rising trot,

but Ria’s refusal brought me to

an abrupt halt several times;

so embarrassing for a novice.

Emma marched to the standing mare,

pushed the crop through my reigns

and gave her a stinging blow

and off she went at a canter.

From thereon in

she was good as gold and I

had no need to use the lash,

just having it was enough.

Hey. Not sure about this one. Have to think on it. In terms of effect, I think it had the desired effect, just not sure how to respond.

Not sure you need to see this as complex as it was about my riding lesson on Wednesday lol!

Okay, I was thinking you might be insinuating something else. Guess my mind's in the gutter.:)

Indeed. Many thanks Thomas
And off you went into the sunset! Emma knew just what to do....and was a good teacher. There is a life lesson in this one....having the whip is enough.....using it is not always necessary. I liked this, John. Lydi**

Thanks Lydi. It all happened today at my riding lesson and Emma is a senior instructor.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
