Three Hail Mary's

Three Hail Mary's

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Guilt!

"

Three Hail Mary’s

Forgive me Father for I have sinned;

many times.

And now I have stored them

all around my house,

in every room in which I’ve tread.

Some are stuffed down the sides of my sofa,

there are fresh ones in my refrigerator.

The ones that I need to have today

are in a fruit bowl on my table, my five a day!

I have quite a few I sleep on, under my bed

and in a dusty box in my loft are the dried ones

I can’t throw out, but I’d sooner forget I have.

I fear I am running out of space

and they keep accumulating like autumn leaves.

I guess I might need to hire self-storage soon......

......who would be a Catholic eh?

Indeed Thomas. Many thanks.
a clever look at the Catholic Church with all its strangeness, but, I detect a hidden fondness too, carried through with irony ; like this too

Thank you Leslie. I despise the Catholic church after years of being part of it.
It is a heavy burden to feel sin or guilt, I naturally feel guilt, always have and for no reason...they do collect like a chain of stones around the neck until you realise you are only meant to be you...cool music too xo

I guess many of us feel guilt. I am lucky as mine is a shaddow and no more. Glad you like the music .. read more
oh those rosaries, and that constant penance we need to do ---catholic upbringing...
the guilt factor...acts of contrition...

judgment, too much of it...

love the poem.

Thank you Jacob.
Impossible to count the times we 'sin' between cradle and grave. It's called being human.

Good take on a thorny subject.

Many thanks Terpsichore.
Funny this is, I grew up Catholicand that whole view of sin I always thought it was so messed up, I still rememember well when I mentioned Alber Camus to a priest and I got a condescendent look about accepting the absurdity of life. In this writing there is an invitation to accept just that the ansurdity of life not just that is is complemented with copious amounts of humour which lightens up the load, truly the last thing we want to do is let that heavy definition to creep into our physicallity and start letting sin devlop into guilt, guilt into depression so on so forth.

Thankyou

Okay, I don't know if it's just because I am Catholic, but I absolutely unconditionally love this piece. The whole thing is filled with a wonderful dry wit
