Lamenting winters cloak

Lamenting winters cloak

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Leslie got me thinking of how much I hate winter!

"

Lamenting winters cloak

The dank dampness seeps into my bones

through wet boots.

My fingers, covered in leather,

still crystallise as brittle

useless claws

and the days,

blunted at each end in darkness,

drag my soul into the abyss.

There to await the rekindling,

the rebirth of hope born

from skin unwrapped

and gently warmed,

as life returns to earth

in glowing fields of springtime.

Until then I will withdraw

and curtail life itself,

as I lament winters cold cloak

from deep within the resentment

of my hibernation.

I love the imagery in this poem, you captured the moment perfectly! Though I must say that winter is my favorite season, being that I love the snow...hate the coldness, only because I walk to school and my hands get as cold as ice which actually was bad for me. "So the doctor said"
LOL but anyways. I enjoy this poem! :)

hahaha Yes he is! :)
"the resentment of hibernation" only makes us appreciate spring and rebirth all the more...

the days are dark and dreary in winter, being snowed in, iced in, trapped in a mood unbecoming.

definitely a visual poem that shares those feelings most of us get during this time of year.

True Jacob, think I need to move to warmer climes. Thank you!
Join the winter hating club, along with Poppy and I and a few million others, I think. We had a day of 15 degrees C here yesterday, it confused all the flies and caterpillars, and we are back down to just below freezing. Eloquently penned, btw.

I actually prefer when we get more snow. It feels less harsh, somehow. And running on ice isn't fun.
