Picture on My Wall

Picture on My Wall

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Reminiscing lost love.

"

Picture on My Wall

You are framed now;

encased in wood and glass

and hung on the walls of my recall.

You used to have three dimensions

but now you are a single plane, flat

as the painted thoughts on which you hang.

I still see your curves and lips

and eyes and skin,

and reach out to touch these memories,

but they are now encased within

the vaulted gallery of my recollection,

out of reach.

In my head I hear you speak

whispering yesterdays I love yous

in delicate and fervent breaths,

but it is now a mere echo that laps

at the water’s edge

instead of the crystal cascade,

the rushing torrent we shared.

Accepting someone as just that, when they were so much takes great strength. I like the perspective of this it gives it much more impact. I enjoyed this well written poem.

Thank you Thomas
Sad when someone we once held so dear becomes a photo on the wall.

I have my own art gallery! Thank you.
Your expressions and recollections of thought are staggering...although I know you would say, "it's just poetry". Oh, but I beg to differ...

You're very welcome... thank you for sharing!
A touching and melancholy write… those pictures have the power to take us right back to when our memories were knew. They capture the moment forever afresh. Well penned.

NOTES: Maybe is should be "whispering [yesterday's] I love yous"

Melancholy recollections here, John. A photo can not hurt you the way a person can. Perhaps the single plane is better than the 3D real life person in some cases. Honest emotions well written. Lydi**

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
