Believe

Believe

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

The truth!

"

Believe

Awaken you fools

and breathe in the air

that surrounds you.

Let its impurity fill you

full of lust for life,

and all of its distortions.

Let not your mind

trick you into believing

that this is the promised land.

And fear not the smite of gods

who stand upon the illusion

of forgiveness.

For here is truth,

here lies the origin

of your own soul

in which you must

believe.

Man is simply man,

born unto a mortal world.

And death

is simply death

and nothing more.

In between our birth and death and in spite of the imperfections we must live our lives to the fullest. I think this is a wonderful affirmation to us all that we should live, truly live, and not let our setbacks stop us. We must grab life by the neck and squeeze every last drop from it. Good work

Thank you IB, we are on the same page!
Each of us should be given the book of ourselves and that is what we should read and understand before we do anything else. Knowing where to look is not hard, figuring out how to look inside is the tough part. A very deep poem John carrying a lot of truth.

Thank you Will, I agree with you entrirely.
Remember when we start talking about knowing the 'truth' we run onto thin ice. Especially when we use our five senses to define it. Truth there are more colours than the human eye can see and there are sounds too low and too high for the human ear to hear. We discovered this through science. Once upon a time it was extremely obvious that the world was flat … well it's not. Many religions may be riddled with untruths and this you KNOW. I know too.

But ...

For here is truth,
here lies the origin
of your own soul
in which you must
believe.
Man is simply man,
born unto a mortal world.
And death
is simply death
and nothing more.

This what you BELIEVE, oh atheist-one, not what you KNOW. Atheism is not the truth … it is a belief system linked to materialism. We know now that there is far more that goes on between material elements, stuff that has no matter. I have had experiences … no drugs were involved and no burning bushes … the first time happened in a middle of a Starbucks and no one pointed or gasped. Everyone was too caught up in their thoughts to notice. But I have indeed felt the interconnectedness of all things and my place within a common consciousness. It's real and yet I know to one who has not experienced it … it sounds like mumbo-jumbo. But I assure you there is contradiction to what I know and to what is truth. I am not a war with science … I love it … it is only the philosophical beliefs that are attached to science that seek to dissuade spirituality. Okay I have gone on way too long … lol … this will of course make it to my blog with a lot of editing a more thought.

Great poem, great poem:)

I think the only thing you and I may differ on is the location of 'truth, as I think it is something.. read more

I don't think we disagree at all … yes the truth is inside … and all around:)

Agreed!.....
Everybody believes in something, we are all different and our beliefs are expected to be different...
No matter what thy belief is it should always make you stronger, not weak.

Thank you for sharing!

A pretty strong statement. Defiant, hopeful, and definitive. And I don't have to believe what you believe in order to have an appreciation for your beliefs. :)

True. It was written tongue in cheek. thanks 'M'
i find this a possibility i often ponder...is religion just a crutch, something to give us hope there is something after this mortal coil is shed?

or do we just die when we die, and that is it...back to dust...particles that settle with our death, and go nowhere else....

it could be...
your poem is thoughtful...

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
