Why Me?

Why Me?

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Pain is real.

"

Why Me?

Rocks of grief

weigh heavy in my stomach.

Sharp pangs of regret,

of angst and mortification,

puncture my lungs

on each and every breath.

Failure seems now

the only option

as I slide deeper

into angry, lonely, silence.

There my heart bursts

with such sorrow

and the nucleus

of an angry storm,

against the raging seas

of life begins to swell.

That anger

expressed

breeds more guilt

and the cycle

begins to speed,

totally uncontrolled,

towards the welcome shores

of my demise.

Welcome to the Shores of Demise, come on in, make yourself at home, you are not alone, oh wait, yes you are, completely alone.

John, you need to frequent a different beach my friend, this one is coated with dark sand. Your poem is fantastic and the despair is felt deeply by the reader - me. I really enjoyed this one.

Why thank you Will. I intend to frequent a few beaches soon in Malta and then Lanzerote lol
A really apt description of a spiral into depression, not sure how Elvis fits in but for his descent into booze and drugs and death.
If it is present tense, you might want to say rocks of grief lie, not lay, but personally, I might put sit instead, but poetic license is, in all cases, yours.:)

Thanks 'M'. It was the tenor and the lyrics that seemed to fit the mood for this one. I have changed.. read more

I love the change. It works beautifully.

Thank you so much 'M'
and then we welcome the demise...either the pain is really worth it...or we were swimming with sharks hoping for the fatal bite.

i am reminded of stevie nicks--'drowing in a sea of love, where everyone would love to drown"--

the ocean imagery works so well here...

I fear not death but I am horrified by living. Thank you Jacob!

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
