Why Are We Here?

Why Are We Here?

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Why is life so cheap?

"

Why Are We Here?

I used to love,

I had dreams

of a world

where feelings

dictated beauty,

where emotions

drove the hearts of men.

Where right won wars

and the weak triumphed.

Where the hungry were fed

and the thirsty slaked.

Where disease was fought

and inequality slayed.

But now my eyes are dark

as the reality of hate

tears the soul from my chest

and I see the greed

that feeds mankind

and drives such selfish desire.

I know hard t find good in our world. There is a lot of it. Sometime we must do some good to know. Good deeds make us feel human again. I understand the thoughts in the poem. Last week two strangers bought two different woman their food in my store. They saw the sadness and struggle. Sometime we must become the angel or good person. Even a smile or hello can do great things. Thank you for sharing the thought provoking poetry. A very good poem.

You are welcome John.
Indeed, times have changed and it seems many are selfish these days. Greed is the impetus for many actions. It's a sad commentary, but unfortunately true. Well said, John. Lydi**

it certainly seems to boil down to a very selfish place. But I guess acts of kindness are worth more.. read more

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
